“The Photobioreactor Sculpture” by Chrales Lee is not only a piece of art but also a renewable fuel factory and bio-remediation plant. The sculpture works by exposing light to sources of nutrients creating a biomass of algae. This algae can then be used as a fuel source, generating biodiesel. These bioreactor towers are attached to a harvesting machine which would then extract the algae biomass. The sculpture proves that renewable energy sources can be aesthetically pleasing in their own right.
