Omnidirectional Treadmill Simulates Real Walking

Omnidirectional Treadmill Simulates Real Walking

European researchers have been developing a new kind of treadmill which aims to recreate natural walking. The omnidirectional 'CyberCarpet' walking surface uses a series of belts running along two axes. While the concept of an omnidirectional treadmill has been around for a while, the creators of this one claim it offers the most natural walking feeling to date. To go one step further, they are combining this with a state of the art tracking system and virtual reality headset, to create a virtual 'walk' through Pompeii. Based on the users movements, the treadmill will adjust and give the impression you are walking through the ancient city.
